TRIP OVERVIEW
Uchal marks the harvest in the Kalash valleys, when the wheat and cheese come in and the villages gather for days of ritual, music and dancing.
It is a quieter festival than Chilam Joshi and, for many travellers, the more intimate of the two.
Visits are arranged through families we have known for years, and we travel with a guide who can explain what is happening without intruding on it.
